Nutrition involves all aspects of feeding a person and keeping them well hydrated. It normally involves eating or drinking, swallowing, digestion, absorption into the body, assimilation of the nutrients into cells and excretion of waste products.

Nutrition may also be achieved by feeding through a tube into the stomach that is passed through the mouth, through a gastrostomy (hole through skin into stomach), or by using special fluids that are fed by a drip into a vein.
